You’re Invited: Effective Local Sign Control Workshop

On Thursday, April 24th, the Montgomery County Planning Commission will unveil a brand new, comprehensive model sign ordinance. The model sign ordinance includes standards for the size, placement, and illumination of on-premises, off-premises, and temporary signs. Specific standards are provided based on zoning district so as to protect the character of a community’s historic districts, Main Streets, and residential areas. The County’s new model sign ordinance also takes a careful, content-neutral approach to sign control that regulates signs based on their physical attributes, rather than their content.

The sign controls outlined in the MCPC model sign ordinance can assist the communities of the Upper Perkiomen Valley region in effectively protecting the character of their historic Main Streets and villages while providing an equitable amount of signage for all users within a district. The model sign ordinance also includes innovative controls for billboard size and digital illumination, based on detailed research and analysis of recent court cases.
